The Saugatuck-Douglas Rotary Club would like to thank our sponsors in a special way. We will be featuring each of our Sponsors on our Facebook page with a memorable story about them and their connection to Saugatuck-Douglas.
Our first Sponsor is Marvin “Pop” Lewis. Pop is a huge supporter of many local initiatives, including the Boys & Girls Club and the Saugatuck Center for the Arts. He has been a member of the Old Timers Group who likes to meet once a month to discuss and solve all the world’s problems. Pop would like to find a group interested in playing Pinochle. If you know of anyone, please let him know.
Pop served in the Air Force and has lived all over the world. He will brag that he had a “marvelous military career!” His favorite deployment was Germany. He loved Germany for many reasons, most notably it’s where he met his wife, Gerlinde, of 53 years! Their favorite song was Blueberry Hill by Fats Domino and I’ll let Pop tell you why that became their song! His daughter, Garnet, moved Pop here to Saugatuck four years ago. He speaks proudly of all his kids and their accomplishments. Sons, John & Lance are a bit farther away, but still close in spirit.
Pop knows that Venetian Fest is vital to our summer tourism season attracting guests from all over the state and midwest. He thinks it also enhances life for our year-round residents. For Venetian Fest 2023, you’ll find Pop enjoying the laser light show from his back porch looking across Kalamazoo Lake.
